The Eola-Amity Hills AVA
Wikipedia reports that the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) established the AVA on July 17, 2006. It lies in Polk and Yamhill counties and stretches from Amity in the north to Salem in the south. It covers about 37,900 acres, of which about 2,850 acres were planted to vineyards as of 2025.
Steady ocean winds reach the hills through the Van Duzer Corridor, a gap in the Coast Range, and cool the summers. The soils are well drained and come from basalt. Pinot Noir is the most widely planted grape. The article counts 138 vineyards and 58 wineries as of 2025. Counts change, so use the area's own association for current information.
