Riverfront Park and the Carousel in Salem

Riverfront Park is the City of Salem's park on the east bank of the Willamette River, next to downtown.

The park

Wikipedia reports that the City bought the land in 1984 and made a development plan for it. The site had been industrial. The park is described as 23 or 26 acres depending on the source. The City of Salem lists a large lawn, an amphitheater, play equipment, a splash pad and a covered pavilion, and says the park hosts the World Beat Festival, a Fourth of July celebration, summer movies and the holiday tree lighting.

The carousel

Salem's Riverfront Carousel is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization at 101 Front Street NE, at the corner of Front and State streets. Wikipedia says the carousel was built largely by volunteers, that construction began in 1995 and that it opened in 2001. The carousel's site lists its hours, its closed days and a volunteer page.
